 | In the final days of the second world war Japanese army soldiers struggle to survive after being abandoned by their commanding officers with minimal supplies and rations. An obvious inspiration on Eastwood's Letters from Iwo Jima, the film's cast endured similar privations to their real-world counterparts in a remarkable quest for near-total authenticity, with production having to be stopped for a couple of weeks at one point when lead Eiki Funakoshui actually collapsed on set.
